The 27th edition of the annual Hybrid Lake Farm Centre Charity Run and Ride race will take place on the weekend of March 12 and 13 at the centre in Kragga Kamma.

The Lake Farm Centre has decided to host the hybrid fundraiser this year, which is a safe blend of virtual and physical events for a donation of R100 a person.

The popular event will consist of a 5km walk or ride, 10km, 25km, 50km, 75km and a 100km race over the two days from 8am on Saturday to noon on Sunday, with the 5km walk/run starting at 7.30am on Saturday.

All 5km participants at the Lake Farm Centre will receive a one-of-a-kind iconic handmade Lake Farm Centre medal.

The centre will also be reopening the Coffee Shop, post their Covid-19 shutdown to coincide with the 27th edition of their annual fundraiser.

Lake Farm Centre general manager Amelia Laubscher said the annual charity weekend was their biggest annual fundraising platform.

“As always, the ultimate goal is to raise much-needed funds and create awareness for the Lake Farm Centre, a residential centre for intellectually challenged adults,” Laubscher said.

“The return of the fun 5km walk/run will also create a safe, fun and meaningful family experience, and afford the residents the opportunity to mingle with the community at this wonderful event in the country.”

This year, the Lake Farm Centre celebrates 62 years of providing a loving home and workplace for 90 intellectually challenged residents.

The centre has 43 staff members, with 37 residing on site, ensuring 24-hour support and care.

It also provides 10 separate work groups generating employment and the opportunity for residents to make a valuable contribution to the running and upkeep of the site.
