Bay table tennis leagues heat up

Nelson Mandela Bay Table Tennis provided some tense encounters this week, with both premier and first league teams in action.

Aryan A and Callie’s A got their premier league campaign off to a flyer, going head to head in an intense fixture.

Devon Langford (Callie’s A) was in no mood to mess around as he won all his matches including a humdinger against the versatile left-hander Neil Hendricks (Aryan A) with Langford edging it 6-11, 11-7, 11-5.

With the tie hanging in the balance, Aryan A brought on doubles specialist Thiagasen Pather, who brought calmness to the table, winning some crucial points as Aryan A won 8-3 on the night with a good team performance.

In the second matchup, Topspin A registered their first win, beating Rockets B 6-5.

It was an evenly contested encounter with both teams playing excellent table tennis in some close games.

Key player Prishen Ryan (Topspin A) played well to win all his matches.

In the other premier league game, Aryan B continued their winning ways, defeating Rockets A.

There were some competitive matches with Ashley Human (Rockets A) causing problems for the opposition with his spinney serves and putting up a good fight.

In the end, Aryan B showed their class, sealing it 8-3, with Ridaa Hendricks winning all his matches.

In the first league, Despatch A defeated Topspin B 9-2 in an exciting fixture.

Eugene Lambatjeen and Julian Horne showed good form and won all their matches.

There was a close match between Lambatjeen and promising player Kobus Etsebeth (Topspin B) which could have gone either way.

Ultimately, Lambatjeen took it 11-8, 11-8, seeing his team over the line.

In the remaining clash, Livvi’s Alumni B shaded Aryan C 9-2. Livvi’s B’s Eric Jacobs kept his composure and played well to end unbeaten.
